"Pillow talk" ( and a couple of new rugs)

 "PILLOW TALK"

Last November, shortly after my birthday, I received a small package in the mail.  It was from Margaret of "Petite Parterre" in Australia!  I had been long awaiting the arrival of this Givaway and eagerly opened the parcel only to find not Just the Giveaway prize but TWO additional floral pillows and a lovely Christmas card from Margaret!

These are the mini pillows by Margaret, tied so prettily with a wide pink silk ribbon!

I had to try them out on the bed of #43
Here is the square pale blue floral cushion, I love it but I decided to try out the pink ones, too!

Uh oh, now I love these ones also!
(which ones to choose??)
A little step, further back and I love the look!

And now a closer look at the delicate floral  prints

Such a lovely collection of cushions and such a generous gift!
THANK YOU
MARGARET!!!

now for
TWO NEW RUGS

(one for the bedroom)
I decided to up-grade the bedroom area rug and the rug in the parlor.
above and below photos, are the old "BEFORE" area rugs
just before I installed the bed curtains

And here is the "AFTER"
I chose a more subtle pattern of toned down color so that it would not compete with the abundance of  new drapery surrounding the bed.  The ground color is a near perfect match with the 'metal' bed frame of the single bed.
I also decided to increase the size of  the area rug to cover more of the floor space which made the room look bigger!

And this is what the bedroom looks like now
Much better!

and now I need a new rug for the Parlor...
this was the very beginning of the Parlor when I was still experimenting with the floor plan but right off the top I had chosen an area rug and used it for determining the color scheme that I would eventually use.
The rug had a coral/ pink back ground color that was bordered with some greyed blues.
( above and below are the "befores")
Here the old rug is a little more visible
( oh, hello Nate!)

and here is the new one!
I found an oriental area rug with more burnt orange tones and some blue in the pattern
I like the way it fills up the floor and carries all of the colors of the furniture and accessories so easily, and Nate seems even Happier than before, in his spot by the fire!

A picture of contentment

And one of repose!

    1. Hi Grandmommy! Thank you for your vote of confidence, Grandmommy. I can't begin to tell you just how many different rugs have been tried out again and again in both rooms. It got to be very very frustrating after a while when I couldn't make up my mind. Argggh!.... But NOW I am happy.... ( i think)
The fireplace was an unfinished Bespaq French style one that I purchased probably 17 years ago and stained a pickled grey. I am happy to have finally found a permanent home for it. Yay!
Nate says "hi" ( woof woof) back and wishes to add his Personal Greetings and Well Wishes for you to have an Extra Specially Merry Christmas with your family and your grandchildren.

The cushions from Margaret are delicate and elegant, enjoy it all, dear friend!
I fully agree with you that the rugs are more in balance with the rooms now, they look fantastic. I guess Nate thinks the same about the rug in 'his' room, but what is he doing with those slippers ;)?

    1. Hi Ilona! Thank you!! It is good to be back! I love the cushions that Margaret sent and I am still undecided which I prefer the best on the bed, the square blue one or the rectangular pink ones.... Hmmm?... Well, maybe I don't have to decide right now only just enjoy them! I am glad that you like the change of area rugs Ilona. I have found that if I decide to make One change of one element, I end up having to change at least 3 other things in order for it to balance back out again. Extra work but worth it in the end.
Nate has commandeered those slippers and hold one of them very possessively. Marisa of Stienworks has in the past, threatened to wrestle him to get it back but threats have had little effect on Nate. He is indeed, the King of 'his' castle! :D
A Big Hug back and a Very Merry Christmas to you! :)

    1. Merry Christmas Indy-Poppy! Nate is Indeed a Great Dane and I believe that I purchased him Many Many Years ago whilst attending (my favorite) Seattle Miniature show. I believe that Nate is still just a puppy based on his size but perhaps there is a smaller breed of Great Danes that I don't know about? I remember when I was still trying to choose a dog for this home and many breeds showed up to the audition, but as soon as Nate walked in so gracefully and settled himself so comfortably by the fire, then right away, I knew He was the One for the job! :D

      Now he refuses to budge!

I used to always be buying and re-arranging the sofa cushions in my Real Life living room. After a while my children got tired of seeing bags of discarded throw cushions and they asked me to stop! ( I think I am addicted to throw cushions so I had to stop going to Winners and Home Sense just so I would not be tempted to bring home any more) But just lately, I was looking at my Living Room sofa and thinking about some new chocolate brown ones to match my Real Life drapes..... uh oh.... 'throwcushionitis' could be making a comeback! :0

    1. Hallooo Sharee! Thank you for your lovely comment and compliments re; Margaret's cushions and the new rugs; I agree with them all!:D I deliberately chose a more subdued carpet for the bedroom because the drapery was the "star" and the area rug needed to be more of a 'bit player', to keep the room calm and relaxing for sleep , but for the Parlor, because it was the entrance and dirt and debris would be tracked in and because of the color scheme already established, it took me a longer time to find something suitable. Glad that you like the results. It does give the room a 'lift' and I am very happy with it AND Nate approves the change.
That would be 2 Paws UP! hahaha

  18. Hello, my dearest Betsy! Aren't the pillow Wonderful!? I Love the Pink ones too and loved them on the bed... then I bought some new wallpaper, on hold for the next project that is on stand-by and the Pink cushions just might be making a move. The square Blue cushion is just the right size, shape and color for the bed so..... it is back to 'wait and see'.
Now as to the new rugs and my sources. Yes I do print my own. I have a large file of glossy tear sheets of photos I have been collection from back issues of "Architectural Digest and The World of Interiors" magazines dated from the 1990's. In the 90's, everything in interior design was OVER- BIG and OVER -THE -TOP and OVER -DONE. In nearly every issue there was full- sized full- color photo ads of flat carpets of every ilk, from English, Persian, Turkish, French and Contemporary. I often find these design magazines in bulk at the thrift stores and there are often several pages that can be scavenged. I print them out on Printable cotton sheets that I get from Wal-mart, the brand is "Make and Print your own Fabric Transfers (printable cotton)" Sticker You.com. There are 2 pages of 81/2 " x 11" that you can iron or sew on. I usually use spray adhesive and glue the printed cotton onto various backing materials from felt to canvas. I could iron it on but I don't want to loose any of the color from the print once it is heated. The other thing I've used is the Wonderful Suede Paper that Janine orders from the U.S. and it gives a Fantastic surface texture to the rug! Janine at MINWORKS, is ordering some for all 3 of us 'Miniteers' and that will be an excellent way to make the next batch of carpets for the next house project that I am currently planning.
Just over a week ago, Fatima and I, met at Janine's for a look at Her Up-graded Mini Bathroom in her French House and I brought along my thick file of tear sheets for Janine to go through. It is fun when you can share resources and finds. ( Hopefully Janine and Bruce will post the lovely new bathroom soon.) I think that there is also a new house project on the back burner for that household as well.:))
Fatima continues her progress on the Garfield is not yet far enough along to think about area rugs, but when she is she will be able to go through the File as well.
So there is my "trade secret" Betsy! I am sure there are a lot of other ways to get the same results but this works for me. T

  20. Hello Genevieve! Thank you for your endorsement of the change of carpets. As a rule, I choose the rugs when I am choosing the wallpaper and the fabrics for the space, all before I begin the room. To make a switch so close to the end is a lot harder for me but I felt it could and should be done. Adding the bed curtains totally transformed the room in a such big way so that the old carpet was no longer satisfactory. But all's well that ends well! Hooray!
Of course, you being the Proud owner of Margaret's cushions would agree that they are Exceptionally Beautiful and Very French in style too! :))
I love the way that you have displayed them on the chairs in your French Seaside cottage. They are a lovely compliment and look perfectly charming the way that they are placed. You have turned your cottage into such a wonderful home not only for your dolls but also for your multitude of mini friends and I love the new assortment of pastries by Ana! Yum!! :))

  30. Like everyone else I thought your rooms and rugs were perfect and then you do a switch and they are even more perfect - can you be more perfect than perfect? - whatever, you know what I mean. The new rugs are especially nice because they look old. Now there's a backhanded compliment but I know you understand. I often have an issue with things looking as though my rooms are display sets in a shop window - all neat and tidy and spanking new. Each project I try to work a little harder at achieving a bit worn but lovely. You have it off pat.

This past year has certainly been one for learning new things and adapting to significant changes. I am so grateful for the outpouring of care and concern from so many blog friends at the news of my brother Greg's passing and what a blessing to me to have the opportunity to share with the world, what faith in God can do for the soul. There is comfort in knowing God and that He Restores Life on all levels!
Also how well I remember when I began this blog, just how nervous and unsure I was about showing my work to the world. I didn't know "Nuthin from Nuthin" about the computer or the camera; and just look at me now,.... still ignorant! but not nearly so stressed about it! hahaha! I owe so MUCH to both You and Janine and Bruce ( for his tutoring with the camera!) Without the ongoing encouragement and critiques and coaxing for me to keep reaching for 'Ever Better'; I would not have the blog I have today. So THANK YOU Fatima and Janine and Bruce, for your Invaluable Friendships! 35. Thank you Lindsey! I can't begin to number the various rugs that I auditioned for both of the rooms, so I was relieved to finally find 2 that would work! You are so right that the contrast of the brownish rug Does indeed, make the blue dresser stand out more and also brings out the blues of the mantle. Yes the floral designs are printed on and the corners of the pillows are perfectly turned and filled with glass beads so that they drape well. I am still trying to decide which will be chosen for the bed but Now I am again leaning towards the square pale blue one, I like how it ties the other 2 blue elements together.
Have a Terrific New Years Lindsey, ( and Todd too ) and I look forward to seeing even More of the Real Life transformations of your Real Life House! :D

  36. Margaret's pillows are really lovely and perfect for that room. Your new rugs are great, sometimes it can take a while to get the feel of a room and more often than not they take on a life of their own and a bit of a rethink of some of the basics is required. In fact I don't think a mini room has ever ended up as planned. That little doggie is a bit lucky to have such a lovely spot by the fire and now a new rug to relax on as well!

  37. Hi Norma! I am so thrilled to now be a proud owner of such beautiful pillows and I am happy too that I have been able to include them into the bedroom. I will be using them again in the next project that I do too!
You are so right Norma about the house taking on a life of their own. It happens to me every time which is part of the fun. Wouldn't you agree? :)) I know Nate the Great Dane feels this way as well. :D
Have a Happy New Years Norma and thank you for your visit!
